sacred
A downloadable game
what does it mean for something to be sacred? can an object be made sacred, or is it inherently sacred? what relationship do you have to the concept of sacredness?
this is a meditative game in the form of a small ritual. by the end of play, you will have a clearer idea of what is sacred to you, as well as a special object dedicated to reminding you of your connection to the sacred.
a note on performing the ritual alone or with a friend
your notion of the sacred may be intensely personal, and so you may want to play this game and perform this ritual privately. however, some people find it is easier to connect to the sacred in community, and if that is the case, you are welcome to bring a friend along. keep in mind if discussing the prompts in part one together that there are no objectively right answers—your opinions are likely to differ, and that is okay! if you find yourselves at odds, consider it an opportunity to appreciate the variety of ways that sacredness can manifest for different people, or even just the beautiful diversity of human thought.
a note on safety
for some people, particularly those carrying religious trauma, the idea of engaging with the sacred can feel incredibly triggering. this game attempts to offer multiple options for looking at sacredness with different language, but even so, this won't necessarily be everyone's cup of tea. if at any time this process begins to feel overwhelming or beyond what you have the capacity to hold safely, you are invited to set the game down and walk away. it will be here to return to later if you wish. your safety is the most important thing.
material components
- some means, whether analog or digital, to record your answers to the prompts and any other reflections, if desired
- a candle, some incense, or another way of marking the time and space as something special
- an object, small enough to fit into a purse or pocket, that reminds you of a connection to yourself, or to something beyond yourself
- a small bowl of cool water, to be used to mark the object as special (the candle or incense can also serve this purpose)
let's begin.
