true voice

how do you know what is true? when the voice in your head gets loud, or mean, whose voice is it?

this is a meditative game of journaling prompts designed to help you learn to recognize your own true voice, the voice of your inner knowing, through self-reflection. it requires no materials outside of these instructions, a little imagination, and your own body. however, if you want some way of recording your answers to the journaling prompts, you are welcome to take notes digitally, in a physical notebook, or in whatever other way feels useful to you.

it takes time and practice to learn to trust your own voice, to hear yourself over the noise of the other voices, both well- and ill-intended, clamoring for attention in your life. and yet, your own true voice is always with you, even when it's been shouted down to the barest whisper. if you approach with care and attention, you can learn to pick it out of the noise. you can bring it back to its full power.

a note on listening for your true voice alone or with a friend

this is a game about finding your voice, and distinguishing that voice from the other voices in your life. however, sometimes this work can feel safer or easier to process when done with a trusted friend. if you wish to play this game with a friend, each of you should complete the exercises in part one on your own. then, in part two, you can each be the voice asking the other to answer the prompts.

a note on safety

this game relies heavily on paying attention to what you are feeling—both emotionally and in terms of bodily sensations. if at any time this process begins to feel overwhelming or beyond what you have the capacity to hold safely, you are invited to set the game down and walk away. it will be here to return to later if you wish. your safety is the most important thing.
